End Of The Line

from Red Thread by Rob Tunbridge

about

I was struggling to write a song that I had started in Japan, in 2016 which I had originally intended to call End Of The Line. Whilst struggling with this original song, I was thinking about the title when this idea popped into my head. So, I wrote this song and called it End Of The Line whilst the original idea became Rollin' Along.

I think it is pretty obvious what I am writing about, as I am reflecting on getting old. I have had few people say that they don't appreciate the fact that I am mentioning my own mortality but, it is meant as a wry and humorous look at myself and not to be taken too seriously.

When I started writing this song, I wanted it to have the feel of a Status Quo track and it wasn't long after beginning to write this song, that the passing of Rick Parfitt (one of my true guitar heroes) was announced. Musically, in my own humble way, I used Rick's style of playing to steer the course for this track.

lyrics

End Of The Line

Getting older every day but I don’t care
‘bout the way I look or the clothes that I wear
And I really don’t give a damn now what I say
I’m another day older and I’m heading for the end of the line

It’s getting harder to work and even harder to play
And I feel my joints are aching in every way
And by 10:00pm I’m dreaming of my bed
I’m another day older and I’m heading for the end of the line

CHORUS
I’m heading, for the end of the line
I feel it racing on and pray it ain’t my time
And being young, seems so long ago
I’m on a roller coaster ride to the end of the line

Now Einstein said that time is not a constant thing
And as I grow older I know just what he means
The years that once passed slow now go racing by
I’m another year older and I’m heading for the end of the line
