About this track:
I wrote Richard having spoken to a lot of homeless people that I have met. There are many reasons that people find themselves living rough but, in general, it comes down to a basic mental health issue of one sort or another.

Richard is not about one individual, although I wrote it this way but, is based on several ex-soldiers I have met that are suffering from PTSD and have had no real support when they returned home.

Richard sits in the doorway, bottle in his hand
People pass him by, they don't understand
He served his country, in a foreign land
In his head he's still there, hiding in the sand

Richard drinks to forget his pain
to block the memories from his brain
The things he saw, the cries he heard
wonders what he was fighting for
Dismembered babies from the bombs that fell
Richard says that he lived through hell
No-one cares, now he's back home
And Richard sits in the doorway, all alone

Richard goes unnoticed, no-one gives a damn
about the way he's feeling or the horrors in his mind
He was given a gun and bullets, told to make a stand
Richard came back from conflict a very different man
